What should the parents to be wear to the baby shower?

If you’re the mom-to-be most any outfit will do. Let’s face it, going broke for your baby shower outfit isn’t something any expectant parent wants to deal with.

Look in your closet and come up with a nice casual outfit that not only makes you feel fancy but allows for comfort too.

You may be wondering what your partner should wear to the baby shower, too! If this baby shower is open to male and female attendees then have your partner wear something that matches your selected outfit.

I mean, you don’t want to cause a ruckus about what to wear to your baby shower, however, this may be the last big event you two get to attend before the big life change of becoming parents.

Here are some simple ideas for what mom-to-be can whip together for a fancy yet comfy outfit for her baby shower event:

A lace dress that goes to her knees.

A comfortable maxi dress that leaves plenty of room for movement.

Leggings or sweatpants with a cute sweater/tunic.

A graphic t-shirt that has a mom-to-be theme printed on it.

Like I said, please don’t make this overly stressful. It’s best to wear something you feel comfortable in. For some expectant parents dressing up would feel less normal than wearing casual attire.

You’ll know best what outfit options suit your mood and personality.

Here are a few of our favorite outfits to wear.

What should guests wear to a baby shower?

The guests at a baby shower are usually the people you see on a regular basis. They’re like family, friends, and quite possible coworkers.

While they may not be as close to your personal life as your partner or mom-to-be, the person who is hosting the baby shower will appreciate that you put some thought into what to wear to a baby shower.

You can always ask the host what to wear to this baby shower.

They may be able to provide insight on what their vision is for the perfect event. If they don’t have a preference, and this isn’t a surprise baby shower, then just ask the parents-to-be what style outfits they’ll be wearing.

Not only should you gain a general idea of whether to dress down or dress up, but you need to plan for the weather.

If this is an outdoor event during the spring season then make sure you have an umbrella and other accessories to protect yourself from the unexpected rain shower.

In addition, you’ll want to choose an outfit that’s comfortable as many baby showers have games for the guests to take part in. Your outfit must be able to withstand the party games for long hours at this event without making you entirely uncomfortable.

Some outfit ideas for guests to wear at a baby shower include:

A semi-casual dress with comfortable yet stylish flats.

A cardigan with matching leggings and knee-high boots.

Wide-legged jumpsuit.

Blue jeans with a button-up shirt.

I’m not saying you have to dress up as if you’re going to a ball, but you do want to avoid wearing athletic clothing and other options that scream “I gave this baby shower zero thoughts” and just showed up in whatever.

What kids should wear to a baby shower?

Most baby showers encourage kids to attend, but what should your kids wear to a baby shower? Oh my!

This question comes up so often because parents just know their kid isn’t going to be comfy dressed up in something fancy for hours.

That’s why I highly recommend you dress your kids in a presentable enough outfit while bringing along a secondary choice of clothes.

Having a second set of clothes on hand will allow your kids to change if they’re going to run around, get messy, or do other events that may require a more relaxed-fit option.

Trust me, bringing a second outfit for your kids regardless of age will reduce meltdowns, stress, and keep the kids happy so you can enjoy this baby shower for as long as you’d like!

Where to Buy Outfits for Baby Showers

It can be tricky to find outfits that are perfect for a baby shower! Some of our favorite stores to buy baby shower dresses are:

PinkBlush

Amazon

Target

Unfortunately most stores have stopped carrying maternity clothes in store so online is usually your best bet.

If you don’t want to invest too much into buying an outfit for a baby shower, we love to use the Rent the Runway service. You can rent designer dresses and outfits for the event, and then you return when the event is over!

They even do all the dry cleaning and laundry for you!

But thankfully most online retailers have very generous policies so you can try a few dresses before deciding on the perfect one!

Final Thoughts

What to wear to a baby shower doesn’t have to be overwhelmingly stressful. You can use my tips above as well as talk to your friends to see what everyone will be wearing.

However, if you want to dress up a little fancier for this special day, be sure that your outfit is clean and pressed and above all else, comfortable.

This will allow you to enjoy the party fully without worrying about how your clothes look or fit.
